
Jo-Renee Hunter provides tax advice to U.S. and foreign senior management on foreign and US tax issues related to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, and start-ups. She has successfully defended tax positions with Tax Appeals Boards in the US and foreign countries. She has an extensive knowledge of tax laws, treaties and regulations for the US and countries located in Asia, Europe and North America.
Jo-Renee is often asked to be a seminar moderator and presenter on international and domestic tax issues for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, and wholly owned start-ups. She has been a panel member and/or moderator for: Tax Executive Institute, American Conference Institute, International Fiscal Association, American Bar Association, Practicing Law Institute, and the National Bar Association. She is also a Board Advisor for the Journal of International Taxation magazine and an International Fiscal Association member.
Jo-Renee is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Section of Taxation. She is a former Chair of the ABA’s, Section of Taxation Foreign Activities of US Taxpayers and Women and Minorities Committees. She is an appointed member to serve on the ABA Section of Taxation Government Submission Committee and has been a member of the ABA Section of Taxation’s Nomination and Committee on Committees Committees.
Jo-Renee championed the ABA, Section of Taxation’s Presidential Showcase - “Diversity a Vision for Lawyers in the 90’s” that became a catalyst for revising and executing the ABA’s Section of Taxation’s diversity program.
Jo-Renee has formerly served as a Board member for the NAACP Executive Board Chicago’s Southside Branch, Project Might, Highland Park High School and Adult Education Program, and Indianapolis’ Departments of Transportation and Metro.
Jo-Renee is the Director of Tax for MeadWestvaco. During her career, she has worked for a major law firm (McDermott, Will and Emery), CPA firm (KPMG), and other Fortune 50 companies.
Jo-Renee holds a BS in Accountancy from the University of Illinois (Urbana), a MS in Taxation with a concentration in International Business from DePaul University (Chicago) and a JD from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago Kent College of Law (Chicago).
