On Diversity: Out of One Comes Many
McGladrey Office Managing Partner in Boston and AICPA Chairman, Richard Caturano, recently spoke out about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession in the Boston Business Journal. Caturano believes that diversity and inclusion should be at the top the industry's strategic priority list, saying that the result will be many engaged employees, many satisfied customers and a profitable and sustainable enterprise.

Race has historically come immediately to mind for people thinking about diversity, but what constitutes diversity is far more expansive and includes one's gender, religion, ability, sexual orientation, political beliefs, worldview and socioeconomic status, among other things. In fact, the contemporary definition of diversity is simply "the presence of difference," said Hannah Lozon, the social justice education coordinator for Residence Life, who also acknowledged that diversity is a powerful resource.
